Legislative Update
Veto Session

Dear Friends,

We are still working away here in Topeka. We have discussed education, the budget, and "Jessica's Law" (Tough of Sexual Predators). Nothing is completely wrapped up at this point. I voted for an education plan that failed today, but I hope that we can still get a good bill out of conference committee. The most appealing aspect of the education bill is that it secures funding for three years. I truly hope we can get passed this issue and go on to other pending important issues.

I will be running an amendment that reduces motor fuel tax by $0.07 a gallon. I am not sure how that will turn out. I am counting votes and I am having difficulty building a 63 vote coalition. This is somewhat surprising to me, although I do understand the motive - heavy road contractors with fat campaign checks and political pressure from the Governor's office. Until I can pass that legislation, I found a website that lists the cheapest gas in your area by zip code. http://autos.msn.com/everyday/GasStations.aspx?m=1&l=1&zip=66025&x=10&y=5

Take Care,

Anthony
